THE PERMAHAUS

November 10, 2014

Back in the spring of this year we undertook a collaboration with architect Eric Parks and permaculturist Joe Atkinson to enter the Ecohaus competition run by the British Homes Awards. Our entry ended up with the title ‘Permahaus’ and that does give a good idea of the central themes we wanted to bring together of Passivhaus and Permaculture. Not obvious bedfellows but ones that we thought complemented each other well. Along with the two central themes we also looked at the integration of smart technologies within the house and as a site wide solution.

Inevitably, in a competition entry with the team members’ busy schedules, we only touched on some of the possibilities suggested by the bringing together of these ideas in the design of a house. Over the next few months we will look at the ideas that lay behind the competition entry and how we intend to incorporate them in to our design approach. In the meantime, here are some images from the entry.
