Dovecote Barns
Client: Manor Farm
Location: Kelfield, North Yorkshire
Winner of numerous gold awards for ‘eco-tourism’, Dovecote Barns is a self-catering holiday village comprising three disused farm buildings converted into luxury accommodation. Dating back to the 18th century, the barns have been sensitively restored by LEDA to retain much of their existing fabric and regional character while achieving excellent levels of insulation and airtightness. To minimise its carbon impact, the development incorporates rainwater recycling, solar panels and under-floor heating provided by a shared, locally-fuelled biomass boiler. Where new materials have been used, such as in the granary’s green oak frame, they have been selected for their environmental performance and low embodied energy.
