Longdales Solar Room

Longdales Solar Room

Client: Private
Location: Longdales, Windemere

LEDA carried out a study of the options to improve the environmental performance of this striking 1960′s country house. The Solar Room will enable greater use of and contact with the garden whilst being passively heated. Solar panels mounted on the main roof will provide hot water and an eventual upgrade of the heating plant will switch to biomass boilers. PV’s will also be added at a later date. The existing external fabric will be gradually upgraded (injected insulation to the main cavity walls has already been completed). The extension has highly insulated cavity walls and roof with high performance glazing and internal thermal mass in the floor and walls to store the solar gains. A sedum covered roof complements the view of the garden from the existing upper balcony.
